Canada at bottom of OECD, new report
Canada is one of the worst environmental
performers in the industrialized world, according to a comprehensive
new report released today by the David Suzuki Foundation.
The Maple Leaf in the OECD: Comparing progress
toward sustainability finds Canada ranks 28th out of the 30
member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation
and Development based on 29 key environmental indicators. These
include: energy consumption, water consumption, greenhouse
gas emissions, air pollutants, pesticide use, and amount of
protected areas.

Addition of Ecologically Significant
Lands will Double the Size of St. Lawrence Islands National
Park of Canada
BROCKVILLE, ONTARIO, November 22, 2005
- Canada's smallest national park is about to double in size,
opening new opportunities for Canadians to experience the
park and for Parks Canada to enhance its ecological integrity,
thanks to a land transfer from Ontario's St. Lawrence Parks
Commission and a land donation from the Nature Conservancy
of Canada (NCC).

Ontario Government Rules out
Road Through Boyd Conservation Area
Area Excluded From Pine Valley Environmental
Assessment
The Ontario government has directed
the City of Vaughan to remove the Boyd Conservation Area
as a possible route to address transportation problems in
the Pine Valley corridor, Environment Minister Laurel Broten
announced today.
