Certification Committee Chair: Paul Bateson
This committee is responsible for:
- Managing Hike Leader Certification Program
- Managing Long Distance Hiker Awards Program
- Managing Safe Hiker Program
- Developing and implementing new programs as appropriate
- Liaising between Hike Ontario and course delivery agents such as clubs, colleges, universities and outdoor recreation programs
Fund Raising Committee Chair: vacant
This committee is responsible for:
- Creating annual fundraising plan
- Ensuring adherence to applicable policies, e.g. grants policy
- Developing and managing of Friends of Hike Ontario donor program
- Researching, preparing and submitting applications to private and public funding sources, e.g. Trillium Foundation, Recreational Development Fund, private foundations
- Cultivating relationships with provincial government ministries that provide sustainable funding
- Fundraising together with charitable foundation partners
- Preparing reports on funded projects and programs
- Providing HO member clubs with resources and leads for local fundraising
Issues, Policy and Advocacy Committee Chair: Ron Scanlan
This committee is responsible for:
- Representation on Ontario Trails Council
- Representation on Hike Canada
- Considering and, as required, investigating issues, policies and advocacy matters brought to the attention of the committee by the board or executive or general membership
- Identifying trends and issues that impact hikers and speaking or acting as Hike Ontario representing Ontario hikers
- Developing and maintaining relationships with government departments and ministries and other recreational users groups
- Representing the views and concerns of the hiking and walking community with respect to government actions and policies
- Developing and implementing policy statements and position papers when needed
Planning and Development Committee Chair: Brendan Zamojc
This committee is responsible for:
- Insurance matters including hosting workshops and information sessions on risk management issues and liability insurance
- Strategic planning including the Compass 2015 strategic plan
- Membership program
- Volunteer recruitment, training and placement
- Pursuing best practices, sound advice and proactively engaging in and encouraging safe practices and education
- Identifying threats to the ongoing operation of hiking trail associations
- The risk management program including reviewing, updating and publishing the Hike Ontario risk management manual as needed
- Liaising with member clubs on best practices and risk mitigation
Public Education Committee Chair: Daniela Jameson
This committee is responsible for:
- Media outreach, public service announcements and press releases
- Creating and maintaining publicity materials and coordinating participation in public events
- Coordinating public speaking opportunities
- Providing promotional articles for publication
- Creating the annual report
- Promoting Ontario Hiking Week, Spring Hike Day, International Trails Day and other special events across the province
- Developing and maintaining the Hike Ontario external-facing website
- Managing the annual summit and the annual summit volunteer awards
- Managing the Ambassador Program
- Managing the Best Practices Program
- Managing the Young Hikers Program
